When writing my first draft it was very hard for me to come up with anything for it at first because I have never written a essay strictly on metaphors so it was hard for me to do this at first. It’s never easy to write a paper especially it being the first draft of it. For me writing my first draft for this paper I know I did a lot of repeating myself which tends to happen a lot to me when writing a first draft of anything. Also I know for me it takes me awhile to even get my head where I want it to be to write the paper. In Shitty First Drafts by Anne Lamott when she says “that they take in a few deep breaths, push back their sleeves, roll their necks a few times to get all the cricks out, and dive in, typing fully formed passages as fast as a court reporter.”, after reading that sentence I said to myself I wish it was that easy for me to write essays because it is one of the hardest things for me to do.

When comparing my first draft to Shitty First Drafts I realized I wasn’t the only one who really struggled like I do. When Anne says ” The right words and sentences just do not come pouring out like ticker tape most of the time.” I felt that and related to that a lot because I really feel like I can’t get anything to come out to words on paper.

For my revision plan my goal is to come out with the best possible paper I could have written for this prompt by taking all the advice I got from my peers and professor. The steps I plan to take to better my strategy is by one going over all of the peer reviews I got back and also the review I got back from my teacher. Then I will reread my essay and start to apply the advice I got into the paper making sure I don’t miss anything. The biggest challenge I see for myself is not repeating myself because it is something that I have done in a lot of previous essays in my life and I know I did it in this essay. If I do start to repeat myself again I am going to talk to the professor or a peer of mine and ask them for some help on how to avoid this even more.

  1. I think it’s AMAZING that you are so self-aware as to know that you repeat things in your work. This gives you a head start on revising, as you can check your paragraphs one by one to make sure that they work toward a distinct point. Nice job!
