Artifact 2-EDU 261

Artifact 2-EDU 261

For this assignment we had to do twenty hours of classroom observation. Observation hours can be combined with other EDU course. From that twenty hours of fieldwork we then had to write a 1-2 page reflection on five concepts related to social students education,, conduct a short interview with a participating social studies teacher, or participate in a scheduled school event related to social studies. This assignment is aligned with standard nine because standard nine says “The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.” By having this reflection to look back on in my future teaching carer can help me professionally and shows I am engaging in and out of the classroom professionally.

I really enjoyed this assignment because fieldwork is one of the most important parts of our education at UNE in the education department. Being able to go into the schools as many times as you can in a week and seeing the “real life stuff” or in person experience with students and teachers is something you can’t beat. You will also learn so much more in a classroom observing and helping the teacher running the classroom then in a lecture. The reflection that we write at the end of fieldwork shows all the stratigies, classroom management, tips and tricks, and more that we have learned over our time in a classroom. This will help expand my knowledge and improve my future practices as an effective educator because I will always have this to look back on and refer to for strategies, help, advice, refreshers, etc.
